This is one of those times where, if had a Karma Points system (and if I, in turn, had some Karma points) I would Karma-bump the heck outta this post. Palm went to Windows because they didn't want to stay stuck in the mobile equivalent of DOS. Unfortunately unlike Apple its too little, too late. they purchased some *nix company in China that has experience with mobile versions of *nix and right now is trying to migrate POS over to a *nix flavor of OS. Heck Palm is so lost that they are trying to pull an Apple.
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 JADE PC
It sucks and the Pocket PC or Windows Mobile (ick I hate that name.) kicks the living snot out of POS right now in pretty much every way imaginable. All Palm has been doing is slapping on a new addition to the house and calling it NEW and improved! Because POS never had its OS X its Windows 2000.
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 JADE CODE
I'm willing to bet there is legacy code in POS that dates back to v1. My point is Palm doomed them selves because they had management who didn't have a clue or simply didn't have the resources to really revamp the OS from the ground up. Well it sort of does it in a craptacular manner. Something that POS (Notice that Palm OS and Peice of **** share the same acronym.) STILL to this day doesn't really do. Not only do users want color and sound they also want the ability to multitask. It was the beginning of the end because by the time they figured out that yes. Seriously in 2001 the CEO of Palm stood infront of a crowd at CES and stated our users don't want color, sound etc. They sold out to MS because the idiots at Palm couldn't find their butt with a flashlight and both hands.
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 JADE MAC OSX
Apple Mac OSX 10.6 is not affected by this vulnerability, upgrading to this version is highly recommed when possible.
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 JADE MAC OS X
This vulnerability could be used by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, by enticing the user of Mac OS X v10.5.x to view or download a PDF document containing a embedded malicious CFF font (Compact Font Format ). Interestingly, it only effects Mac OS 10.5.x which contains much more 32 bit. This is the initial arbitrary code execution (patched for iOS) prior to privilege escalation (already patched for iOS not present in OS X) so alone it does not provide root. The initial hole from Jailbreakme () is still not patched. So, that is why many iOS exploits do not show up in OS X. 64bit processes have more security mitigations and have not yet been exploited. Many security mitigations in 32bit processes can often be defeated via bruteforce.
MORTAL KOMBAT 9 JADE INSTALL
It's just makes too much sense for Apple to pass up.Īt present the Mac has few threats, those that are in the wild at the moment generally rely on social engineering as opposed to vulnerabilities in the software, however, what we have to remember is that there have been a number of vulernabilities in iOS that have been exploited in order to jailbreak iOS devices (these vulnerabilities in many cases are also common to OSX as they spring from the same codebase), these exploits do provide the ability to gain root access to OSX and hence provide an avenue to install software (without the users knowledge) that could be used to cause the theft or destruction of data. No need to mount iDisk as a separate volume, just connect to a MobileMe account in the System Preferences and your home folders are automatically synced with the cloud. Anything I save to the Home folder is automatically backed up to the cloud in short order so I can have almost immediate access to it elsewhere. Most of all though, it all has to be transparent. It would be smart to make part of OS X itself and offer it for free, then sell extra disk space at a modest premium to get people to backup their iTunes and iPhoto libraries to the cloud. It would also put the downright draconian file sharing implementation of the iWorks apps on the iPad out to pasture.

Have your home folders automatically backup to MobileMe and access them anywhere, iPhones, iTouchs, iPads, other Macs, you name it. Which is a shame really, because Apple was so close to it years ago with iDisk but never put it all together. The only future for MobileMe is to adopt the DropBox model.
